Eating at Level 33. Does altitude makes a difference with food?

Not the usual food I go and eat but it is still food. So lets see how it goes. Where we are going today is Level 33. The highest craft brewery in the world with dining.

How to get there :-

Address
8 Marina Boulevard , #33-01 Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1

Timing
Mon - Wed                     : 11.30am -12am
Thu - Sat & Eve of PH  : 11.30am - 2am
Sun                                 : 12pm -12am

Nearest landmark
Downtown MRT station.

Suggestion :- You may want to call to make reservations especially if you want to come for a drink, since the whole time I was there, the open air seating, for drink, was fully occupied. We started around 8pm and left at around 11.30pm.

As you go into the lift, the lift is like an exclusive elevator for the restaurant, since there is no button inside of up or down. Just open & close door and emergency. No other button. This was abit unusual for me, since I could not press any button multiple time or check to see if the button was pressed. It was a totally enclosed elevator without any windows, we could be heading the other way for all I knew.... like to level negative (-) 33.

Once you got out of the elevator, the hostess table is right there. And behind her, there is a row of stainless steel tanks. They also have CCTV screens of the beer fermenting. I feel that beer fermenting is not a very exciting or action packed spectator sport and maybe some other channels would be more entertaining. I am just saying. That is all.

But after you pass the tanks, you will reach the main dining room. In the middle of the dining room is a bar and 2 huge copper kettles. The overall decor, I feel is simple with lots of wood and earth tones. The lighting is warm and cast a comfortable feel of the place. And lots of windows. I am not sure how it would look like in the day, but at night, you can see some of the taller buildings, lighted up and within you field of view as you are dining.

The wait staff was friendly and did come and check up on us, from time to time. Even though he was busy, running around, serving food, beer, and the occasional small talk. Very understanding when we needed more time to look at the menu, or when we just busy chit chatting not finishing up the food so he could clear the dishes.

Before I get to the food, lets me just put the night time pictures of the view. They speak for themselves, without needing me to mess it up.

And also don't forget to look up, the facade of the building is also lighted up and look quite impressive from the bottom.
Before we ordered our food, we ordered drinks. So to sample their craft beers, we decided to get a Beer Tasting Paddle. They were out of stout that night and so we replace it with another IPA (Indian Pale Ale).
2 beers stood out above the rest. The first one was the Lager. It was light and smooth. The next was the wheat beer. This was surprisingly good. It was rich with a pleasant finish.

So now, lets start with the food. We ordered 2 appetisers, 2 mains and 2 deserts.

The first appetiser was called Octopus. It was pan seared octopus. The octupus was cooked beautifully and gave a wonderful chewing texture for the first dish. Looked nice but tasted better. Rating 4/6 Damn Good

The next appitiser was called Pigs & Snails. It was braised pork belly, crumbled and topped with escargot. On paper, it looked nice, but I think something may have gone wrong with the execution of this dish. When I bite into the pork, water gushed out and it tasted abit briny with a pork taste. After that, I did not try another. Don't get me wrong. It did not taste bad, the ingredient was fresh, just something put me off about it. Rating 2/6 Average

The first main to arrive was the Mangalica Pork. This was a char grilled piece of pork loin. On the outside, the pork was well seasoned and the seasoning and char of the meat, gave it lots of flavour. But the meat was too lean. And it was not tough, but just the meat did not add much meaty goodness back to the seasoning. It was like a 2 person bicycle, and only one of them was pedaling. Except, for one small piece, of the pork, which did have abit of marbling to it, and that piece was good.  Rating 3/6 Tasty

The next main dish was the Rib Eye Steak. There was nothing wrong with this steak. It was done exactly what I wanted. It was seasoned well. It was the right cut of meat. When you ate it, it was what you wanted from a steak. Nothing to complain about this. Rating 4/6 Damn Good

This was one of the side dish we ordered. It was called Maccheroni. Basically it is macaroni with cheese. It was good. It was cheesy and full of flavour. The flavour came from the wholegrain mustard and beer malt crumbs. It was one of the better things I ate that day. If you like cheese, I recommend this. Rating 4/6 Damn Good

Another side dish we ordered was Kipflers. It is potatoes, roasted in duck fat, together with garlic and rosemary. This was not one of my favourites. I think it may have been one of the other ingredients in this dish like bergamot, that I was not use to the taste of. But this is a rating from my own taste buds. Rating 1/6 Don't Try

And now desert time....
This is Bavarois. It was chocolate ganache with sea buckthrorn sorbet. The sorbet was super sour. And the ganache was okay.  Rating 3/6 Tasty

The name of this desert is Frozen. Basically it is a chef selection ice cream with one of the flavour, a daily handcrafted beer flavour. The first ice cream was vanilla. Nothing special there. Except, it is abit mild and after you taste the other flavours, you need to clean you palate before you will be able to taste it again. The next flavour was the beer ice cream. That was good. I mean really good. It was like the taste of good beer in ice cream form without the alchohol, until you reached the bottom of the bowl, then you can taste abit of the alchohol. But really good and unique flavour. I think more bar should start serving beer ice cream. Lastly, was a lemon sorbet. After the beer ice cream, the lemon sorbet just tasted ordinary.
Rating (beer ice cream) 5/6 Excellent, Rating (other flavours) 3/6

Overall. I feel that the food was geneally good. Most of the food was good and some they did very well. The ambiance and decor was nice. But I felt the pricing for the food was abit expensive. I mean, you could get similar quality food for maybe 75% to 80% of the price. But I think the extra you pay maybe for the view. The view is impressive.
