We are back here today, at Marine Parade Central Food Centre. The reason is the same. I want to review the food here and give you guys enough time to come and enjoy the food here. Just a reminder, major renovations planned here in 2017.

The first dish we are eating here today is Nasi Lemak. This is a Malay dish that is a favourite in the region. The word "Nasi" means rice and "Lemak" means Fatty. So the translation means fatty rice. It is called fatty rice since they add coconut milk into the rice when they are making the rice. The more coconut milk they put inside, the more "lemak" or delicious it is. Other than that, they also put in other ingredients to flavour the rice.

3) If you just order nasi lemak, it will come with rice, fried egg, chicken wing, fried fish and ikan bilis (deep fried anchovies)
4) If you want additional items, they can add it to your nasi lemak and the price will be added the total. Price determined on what you order.
5) Make payment and then find a seat to enjoy
First of all, lets talk about the rice. That's the main reason of this dish. For those who loves coconut rice, then they will like the rice here. The rice is nice and "lemak". Or shall I say fragrant. It was satisfying and nice and firm. Very enjoyable and when added to the sambal chilli, it goes so well with it. The chilli was slightly sweet but mostly savoury. Mildly spicy and the only issue is that they only gave a tea spoon full of it for the whole plate of rice. But I can only review what they give me. But on the rice alone, it is well done.
The fried chicken wing was cut using a scissors at the joints. So it is convenient and easy for you to eat it. The chicken itself was fried and you don't really get much extra from it. It was neither soft or hard. Just a normal bite to it.
The ikan bilis (deep fried anchovies) was deep fried until it was super crispy. Which gave it a contrasting texture to the rice. Some may not like it to be deep fried like this since they feel it is too hard, but I like the extreme contrasting texture here. Just be careful that you don't eat it too fast, since there maybe some sharp edges here.
The fried fish was okay, but I am not the best to review fish. Since I have a very particular taste in seafood and only like super fresh seafood. So I am not the best non biased judge for any fish items.
Lastly the fried egg is just a fried egg. Nothing more, nothing less.
I got an extra Begedil. This is actually just a potato fritter. Nothing special here. Just an ordinary potato fritter.
Overall, it was a nice dish of Nasi Lemak. That is due to the rice. But everything else, just ordinary. But the rice does bring it up in the ratings, but the missing element is that not much is done to elevate the other items on the dish to make it a complete dish. Rating 3/6 Tasty
The version of Fried Kway Teow here is the wet version. The fried kway teow fried here is a busy place but you rarely see a long queue. That is because the owners here, cook fast and you do not have to wait long for your food. So a long queue does not form.
And also you might be saying, another Fried Kway Teow review. Yes, I'm afraid so. That is because, fried kway teow has been a favourite of mine, since I was a kid. And so, sometimes, I can not resist and have to order it. So there may be many more reviews of such in the future. My apologies first, but I will continue on this course.

I ordered the $3 portion. It contains, flat rice noodle, with beans sprout, fish cake, chines sausages, cockles and pork lard. This is all cooked together with egg and a sweet and savory sauce. This version as I mentioned earlier is the wet version and the eggy, sweet and savory sauce covers all the ingredients in a nice coating. Almost like a thick gravy that coats everything. For the wet version, the noodles are usually mushy.
On the first bite, there is a slight bitter aftertaste, but that disappears after the first bite. It is sweet and savory at the same time. But it is slightly too sweet if you eat it together with the chinese sausage. Overall the texture of the noodles is mushy but off and on you will bite into a crispy piece of pork lard. The spiciness level is okay and it is also not too oily.
This is a good plate of fried kway teow noodles. It will help to satisfy any craving that you have for this dish. I feel that the pork lard brings a nice crunch to a mostly mushy noodle dish and it is slightly too sweet. Rating 3/6 Tasty
Yes, I know I reviewed it last time, but I am back again to review other items on their menu. So I am back at Neptune Dim Sum
How to get there :-
Address
Marine Parade Central FC #01-176
Timing
8am but not sure what time they close
How to Order :-
1) Find a seat and take note of the table no.
2) Go to the stall and there is a menu on the signboard
3) Decide on the items you want
4) Talk to the owner to place you order.
5) Go back to your table and wait
6) Once all your items arrived at your table, make payment.
7) Then enjoy your dim sum
I ordered again, another prawn rice roll. And it was just as good as the last time I ate it. I also ordered a century egg porridge. The porridge was okay. What I liked about the porridge was the crispy batter bits they put on top. You don't usually get so much or most places don't have that.
The first dim sum is the crystal dumpling. The skin is translucent. The skin is made using glutinous rice flour. The filling, if I am not mistaken is thinly sliced turnip, with mince meat and cilantro. It taste nice but the skin was abit thick and sticky and resisted me abit when I tried to take a bite from the dumpling.
The siew mai (pork dumpling) was good as usual.
The Black Bean Sauce Pork Rib was quite interesting. The sauce was light and savory with a spicy kick. You can still see the black beans floating around in the small metal plate. The spicy kick comes from the chilli padi they used in the dish. In south east asia, the spiciness of the chilli is inversely related to the size of the chilli. So the smaller the chilli, the spicier it is. So the chilli padi is a small chilli and delivers quite a spicy punch.
This is the Shrimp Roll. Inside, there is prawn and carrots. It is deep fried and abit oily. The carrot gives it a nice vegetable crunch while the prawns is fresh. It is salty but you dip in in the mayonnaise and that cuts thru the oil. And it is also one of the more popular dishes. As I was seating infront of the stall, I keep seeing people ordering this dish.
Overall, I fell that anything with prawn here is done well. You can not go wrong. The pork dumpling is also good here and the egg tart which I did not order this time. Rating 4/6 Damn Good
This is an Indian Muslim stall. It serves a variety of rice, noodle or meat dishes. I choose this stall because I wanted to add some variety to my reviews.

I ordered the $3.50 plate of Mee Goreng. Mee Goreng is a malay word. "Mee" means noodles and "Goreng" means fried. So it is actually fried noodles. They fry the noodles in a wok. So they actually use chinese cooking methods to fry this noodle. Then use malay spices and chilli to flavour the noodles. And one distintive feature of Indian Muslim food in Singapore is the deep red colouring they use to colour their food. You can see this in other noodle dishes, rice dishes and even some of their soups.
The owner of the stall, used the spatula and cut the noodles into shorter strips. I don't think it add anything to the taste of the noodles. There is egg noodles, with some cabbage, cut chillis, egg and meat (mutton). Honestly, there is nothing special about the noodles. It taste like every other mee goreng I ordered. Ingredients was also normal.
Overall, it tasted like a mee goreng I ordered form a stall near where I live. Just average. Rating 2/6 Average
So I have finish another food adventure to Marine Parade Central Food Centre. I may come here another last time to finish up the rest of the food I missed out. Or I may just let you guys discover it all by yourselves. I have not decided yet.
