Adam Food Centre. A food centre along Bukit Timah Road and near the Botanical Garden. A food centre out of the way but also interesting. Firstly, around 50% of the stalls here serve halal food. So this will be a good place to come try some Malay and Indian Muslim food. But I am here today, mainly to try 2 stalls. 2 Stalls that sell one of the well liked or sought after Malay rice dish is both Singapore and Malaysia. Nasi Lemak.

Fish Set $4
Chicken Set $3.50
Sutra Set $4.50

3) Place your order when you reach the front of the line
4) Make payment while they prepare your dish
5) Once it is done, take it and go and find a seat and enjoy
I ordered the Sutra Set, which cost $4.50. At the stall itself, you will see a written notice that you can not get extra chili or chicken wing. Everything is sold as sets only. And the only extra you can order is for the potato or fish cake. Also the speed of plating the food is slow and easy.
The rice used is a long grained rice and there is a strong smell of coconut and when you eat the rice, you also get a hint of the coconut there too. The rice on the whole was nice and fragrant but slightly soft.
The Chili is a sambal chili which is spicy and sweet. It looks abit watery but is thick enough for the purpose. The purpose is to be eaten easily with the rice.
The Ikan Bilis (Fried anchovies) is crunchy and there is also peanuts.
The chicken wing is super crispy. The meat is not seasoned but the skin is super cripsy with the taste of deep fried chicken skin taste.
The egg is a fried egg and soft and tender in the middle. It was not over fried.
The Otah was ok. Non of the ingredients stood out but it has a nice barbecue after taste.
This nasi lemak was good. Very good. It was flavourful and delicious. It had everything you look for in a Nasi Lemak. After eating it, I was wondering how the next stall can beat them.
Rating 4 Damn Good
This is the next Nasi Lemak stall I will try. It is just next to the first stall I tried. Talk about competition. Anyway, their name is Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak. It even has a LED sign too.

Fish Meal $3.50
Chicken Wing Meal $3.50
Otak Meal $3.50
Full House $4.50
Royal Flush $5.00
Royal Rumble $5.50

I ordered the Full House Set since the ingredients was similar to the set I bought form the first stall. It cost me $4.50. At this stall, firstly, I notice, when I was in the queue, they are actually preparing for a big take out order. There is a sense of urgency in their pace of work. And they constantly have a queue infront of their stall.
They also use a long grained rice here, Basmati rice and the rice is nice and firm. Stronger coconut taste and a slight pandan smell too. The rice is also abit saltier than the previous one. But the rice is very flavourful.
The Sambal Chili here is also good. It is also sweet and spicy but there is more of a dried shrimp taste in the Sambal. The sambal here is not as watery as the previous one and is just the right consistency.
The Ikan Bilis (fried Anchovies) is also crispy but there is no peanuts here
The chicken wing here is also super crispy. There seem to be a batter on the chicken and it keeps all the oil and fat in the chicken. It taste so good when you bite into it. And all the oily fatty goodness just runs havoc in you mouth when you bite into the chicken
The egg here is over fried and the yoke is totally dry.
The Otah was good but did not have as much flavour as I wanted.
This is also a very good Nasi Lemak. They did the chicken wing so well that I can still remember bitting into it. The rice is the star of this show. Nice texture and coconuty and flavourful. And it all goes well with the sambal. Rating 4.5/6 Better than Damn Good
No.1 Adam's Nasi Lemak vs Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak
From my rating system, you can tell which I prefer. And Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak does one hell of a Nasi Lemak. It is just so good and on certain ingredients, they are actually a step above No.1 Adam's Nasi Lemak. Especially the rice and chicken wings.
It does not mean that No.1 Adam's Nasi Lemak was not good, they also make a damn good plate of Nasi Lemak too. It is actually very good.
My opinion is that they problem is just location. If they were not at this Food Centre and at another Food Centre, then they would do just as well. And more renown since they were not beside Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak.
Selamat Datang is a Malay saying for Welcome. So this stall is welcoming you to try their food. What I tried here is Mee Soto.

This Mee Soto with an extra order of begedil. It cost $3.50. Mee Soto is actually a dish that combines Indonesian Chicken Broth called Soto Ayam with chinese yellow egg noodles.
The soup here is really really good. That is due to the spice mix that they add to the chicken broth. It is out of this world. It is sweet and spicy and a myriad of slight flavours in between. I heard somewhere that they blend this spice mix themselves and it is very delightful. The noodles is nice and firm and goes well with the soup.
There is like this dark chili sauce that you can add to the soup. You are advised to not put too much since it is quite spicy and salty. But if you can take the heat, you may want to put more since it does give a nice kick to your taste buds. Like a horse kicking you in the head and it is quite enjoyable.
Overall it is a very good soup with noodles. Totally enjoyable and worth a try if you are there. Rating 4/6 Damn Good
I could not eat anymore but decided to buy back home some desert. Decided to try this stall and ordered green bean sago. If you wanted to order tau suan, you will have to wait until 5pm, thay is when they finish cooking it.

The desert was ok. Not to sweet. Only issue is that there was uncooked beans in the soup. You will be eating it, n then suddenly you have like crunchy beans in your soup. Not sure how it got in there but not pleased about it. Rating 3/6 Tasty
